The home of landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the London Eye – London is among the oldest of the world’s cities, with its history spanning nearly two millennia.
As a city, London is enriched in a exciting and deep history, from Romans to Vikings, Jane Austin to William Shakespeare and Kings and Queens of old and new. Today London stands proud as the United Kingdom’s largest metropolis and the country’s economic, transportation and cultural centre.
For those who are perhaps not too familiar with London, it lies astride the River Thames which is some 50 miles upstream from its estuary on the North Sea. The notoriously brown and murky Thames has played several important roles in in human history: from acting as an economic resource, a maritime route, a boundary, a fresh water source and a source of food – however most recently it has perhaps played its most glamorous role yet – that of a safe harbour for some of most exciting superyachts to have ever set sail.
At the time of writing this blog, there are currently three superyachts moored up in London’s financial district, Canary Wharf; Royal Huisman’s newest motor yacht Phi (58.8 meters), The newly refitted Amels motor yacht Here Comes The Sun (89 meters), and Oceanco’s award winning Bravo Eugenia (109 meters). Here is a brief synopsis on each award winning yacht:
PHI
Built by Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman and designed by Cor D Rover, PHI is a fast-displacement, aluminium superyacht and is set to be the longest sub-500GT yacht in the world, according to today’s regulations.
PHI has a host of new and innovative technologies onboard, including a patterned DEPP swimming pool which reduces the amount of freshwater used by heating and treating the water when the pool is not in use.
HERE COMES THE SUN
Built in 2017 and newly refitted in 2021, Here Comes The Sun has taken on quite a significant visual change over the past 4 years. Initially she was first launched at a length of 83 meters with a sandy coloured hull however has since undergone a major refit where she has been extended to 89 meters and resprayed to the royal blue finish you see today.
She comes complete with a private owners and vip suites on the main deck, plus a movie theatre and grand piano and can accommodate up to 12 guests if chartering, however if used in a private setting she can sleep up to 18.
BRAVO EUGENIA
Delivered in 2018, BRAVO EUGENIA is currently the largest superyacht to be moored in London and is one of only 58 motor yachts to hold the prestigious length of over 100 meters.
Alongside a beautiful exterior design by Nuvolari Leonard, BRAVO EUGEINA is undeniably a sustainable pioneer amongst her peers, being built with groundbreaking sustainable attributes, including a 30 percent increase in fuel efficiency, waste heat recovery and integrated battery systems. Because of this, she received the Yacht Club de Monaco’s first Belle Classe Explorer Award for Technology and Innovation.
London as a city offers plenty of opportunities and it comes as no surprise that more and more superyachts are beginning to visit London. Over the past five or so years we have had a heaps of iconic superyachts moor either alongside the famous HMS Belfast, behind Tower Bridge or in Canary Wharf. The city views are enviable, the culture is extremely exciting and diverse.. I can only say that the weather is a little temperamental!
